Kicking

Kicking is interesting to me... probably because I've never felt very strong with my kicks. There's basically three aspects for me that I feel are very important;
  1. Distance to the target - There is that optimum distance where the foot is at the sweat spot for creating impact. Too close and get jammed; too far away and you over extend.
  2. Explosiveness from the floor constantly accelerating to the target - From the minute the kick starts to moments beyond impact your foot speed should be strong.
  3. Pelvic tilt - This is a huge concept, tilting the pelvic pan to drive the force forward and through the target. This can really increase the impact.
  4. Driving the supporting foot into the floor to create forward energy.
  5. Timing - Putting all these pieces together so that they occur at the right moment in time.

Photos From Way Back When.

I found these two photographs going through some old stuff.

This is Susan Whynot knocking Lawrence Degenais off his feet.
She's nice and relaxed!

No longer practising, Ed Adams and son Bryan work on a Kata.
